HAIKU PROJECT

Songs & instrumental compositions based on Japanese haiku

Three years ago I started translating Japanese haiku to music. At first, these translations were instrumental compositions for classical ensemble. Later, I brought the haiku and the music together in these poem-songs using both the original Japanese haiku, the English translation and elements of my instrumental compositions.

- Autumn begins - in the drifting clouds the wind can be seen - by 18th-century poet Chora is the second haiku I’ve turned into a song. I hope you enjoy listening to it! Find a demo version of the original instrumental composition below the song.

Haiku and translations were taken from the book - Haiku Landscapes - by Stephen Addis, Fumiko & Akira Yamamoto.

- Only the rain is not thinking of the moon - tonight - by an anonymous poet is the first haiku I've turned into a song.
